Win Hill rises to 462m above the head of Ladybower Reservoir, its summit crowned by Win Hill Pike, a distinctive little rocky crag that locals nickname "the Pimple". According to local legend, the hill takes its name from a Dark Age battle said to have been fought here around 626 AD, with the victors camping on Win Hill while the defeated held the summit opposite, ever after known as Lose Hill. The reward for the steep climb is one of the finest 360-degree views in the Dark Peak, sweeping across the Hope Valley to Mam Tor, the Great Ridge and Kinder Scout.
