Arthur’s Seat is the iconic, jagged peak that dominates the Edinburgh skyline, standing as the highest point of Holyrood Park. As the remains of a massive volcano that was active over 350 million years ago, this ancient landmark offers a wild, highland feel just a stone's throw from the historic Royal Mile. It is famously associated with the legends of King Arthur—some believe it to be a possible location for Camelot—and has inspired countless poets and writers with its dramatic basalt cliffs and sweeping views of the Firth of Forth.
Climbing to the summit at 251 meters (823 feet) is a rite of passage for visitors and locals alike, providing a stunning 360-degree panorama of the Scottish capital and the distant Highlands. The site is also a place of immense geological significance, famously studied by James Hutton, the "Father of Modern Geology." Completed the West Highland Way many years ago as a teenager and a Venture Scout, used it for my expedition for my Queens Scout Award, great to have a patch to sew on my blanket to remember it.
