Rising prominently above the Usk Valley, Sugar Loaf (known in Welsh as Pen y Fal) is one of the most iconic landmarks in South Wales. Though its distinctive conical shape often draws comparisons to a volcano, this 596-meter (1,955 ft) peak is actually composed of Old Red Sandstone. Located near Abergavenny within the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, it is a favourite among hikers for its accessible trails and the stunning 360-degree panoramic views from the summit, stretching across the Black Mountains and the Bristol Channel.
